If you follow us on social media or are one of our prayer partners you may have heard the story of “T” and our plea asking for prayers to save her LIFE.
Let us introduce you all to Ti Nana.
On Saturday August 29th, Ti Nana, a dear friend of myLIFEspeaks and member of our village commUNITY was in a tragic motorcycle wreck that killed the other motorcycle driver on impact and critically injured both Ti Nana and the driver of the motorcycle she was on. Ti Nana was left with massive wounds to her pelvis and legs, bleeding immensely, and fighting for her LIFE.
myLIFEspeaks was finally able to get her to a hospital that would help her after going to several who turned her away. 💔 Yes, that is a thing in Haiti. By the grace of God we were able to get her to a hospital where there were 3 specialists on call (Ortho, Vascular & General) who took her into emergency surgery.
She survived surgery but was still in very bad shape and needed a lot of blood. Eight people from our village went to Port-Au-Prince to give blood in hopes of helping Ti Nana get more blood.
(For context, unlike in the United States hospitals in Haiti don’t keep blood on hand. Usually what happens is in order to get blood you have to find people to “deliver blood” to replenish the blood bank in order to draw some out for the person in need.
That is why commUNITY members and friends went to the capital, a dangerous ride in itself, to give blood on Ti Nana’s behalf so more could be taken out for her.)
After several days at this hospital recovering, we had to transport Ti Nana ourselves to another hospital for care, after the one she was at discharged her prematurely due to an influx of gunshot victims after recent violent political protests.
When we got to her she was lying naked in terrible pain and unable to move. We put a mattress in the back of a pickup truck as a makeshift ambulance and transported her ourselves to another hospital.
Ti Nana was able to have corrective surgery at this hospital in Carrefour to fix an area which wasn’t addressed at the first hospital. The surgery was successful and went according to plan. Doctors removed the external fixator and repaired the front and back of her pelvis.
Her biggest fear, aside from the pain, is that she will not be able to walk again. We have assured her this will not be the case and with time, therapy, and hard work she will be able to walk and be stronger than ever.
Ti Nana specifically said she wants to thank everyone who has prayed for her because she knows that without Jesus she wouldn’t be alive today. This statement is a huge realization and breakthrough!
We continue to thank the Lord for her LIFE and have been able to share the Gospel with her and her family in this difficult time. Ti Nana’s LIFE speaks and God is not done with her yet.
Ti Nana is continuing to progress and heal. She will not be able to do any weight bearing for at least three months but she is learning to transfer from side to side and working on transferring to a chair as well.
On September 21st, Ti Nana got to come home from the hospital to continue recovering at her aunt and uncle’s house.
It has been a long road and she has a long ways to go towards healing but she is a miracle! She gives thanks and praise to God for her LIFE and wants to thank all of you for praying for her.
This is what family and commUNITY in Christ is - friends, neighbors, citizens of Neply, coming alongside Ti Nana to - spiritually and physically - carry her through this time.
Today, Ti Nana is home and continuing to recover and heal.
Thank you Lord for her LIFE. Thank you for this commUNITY of people who love so freely and drop everything to help one another. Thank you for this miracle. Thank you for our commUNITY both in Haiti and around the world praying with us.
“Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
