Haiti Relief Mission Accomplished: How We Responded to a Cry for Help

Recently, myLIFEspeaks embarked on a critical mission to deliver essential supplies to our community in Haiti. This initiative began with a simple goal: to provide much-needed assistance to families facing extreme hardship.

Our staff in Haiti reported that the rapidly increasing rate of inflation was so extreme that basic food and supplies were nearly impossible to access. Warehouses where they usually purchase food were low on supplies. This dire situation threatened to jeopardize myLIFEspeaks' vital programs: therapy sessions, classes at LIFE Academy, feeding assistance for families, and more. While these programs continued, the hope of sustaining them was beginning to fade.

We knew we had to act. While many view Haiti as a hopeless situation, we see a community of remarkable individuals. These are people who have gone out of their way to support refugees, who have generously shared their limited resources with others in need. They are parents who have fought to keep their children at home instead of sending them to orphanages, and those who have taken in actual orphans and cared for them as their own. We see individuals with severe special needs and disabilities who have defied all odds, finding community, happiness, and a love for life. We see disciples making disciples.

In Neply, we don't see a hopeless situation. We see a resilient light shining in the midst of darkness, a community proclaiming to the nation, "JESUS IS HERE. JESUS LOVES HAITI." These are people who matter deeply to us. And for that reason, we refused to give up on them. 

We reached out to a targeted group of myLIFEspeaks supporters, asking for help to get our community in Neply the supplies they desperately needed. We set an initial fundraising target of $45,000 to purchase vital supplies such as food, hygiene products, and medical necessities. To our immense gratitude, the response from our supporters was overwhelming. We surpassed our initial goal significantly, raising over $100,000 in under a month! This generous support enabled us to purchase a wider range of essential items, cover transportation costs from the USA to Neply, Haiti, and navigate unexpected challenges.

The journey to deliver these supplies presented numerous logistical hurdles. We faced challenges related to transportation, navigating complex regulations, and ensuring the safety of the aid as it traveled to Haiti. However, through diligent planning, perseverance, and the invaluable support of the Sentinel Foundation, we successfully overcame these obstacles.

The supplies have now arrived in Haiti and are being distributed to families in our community.

This successful mission demonstrates the power of collective action and the impact of prayer. The generosity of our supporters, combined with the dedication of our team and our partners, has made a significant difference in the lives of many individuals and families in need.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community and for the opportunity to serve those in need. We press on, encouraged and full of hope, knowing that God is not done with Haiti, so neither are we.
