7.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Haiti

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

Please be in prayer over Haiti. Early this morning, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake devastated the southern region of Haiti, with effects and aftershocks felt throughout the country.

We are thankful to share that everyone in Neply is physically okay. However, hundreds of people just 50 miles to the West of us are not.

Over 200 people are reported dead and many others are still missing. The US Geological Survey is estimating high casualties and widespread disaster across the south side of the island. Currently, the two cities reporting the most damage and loss of life are Les Cayes and Jeremie.

Join us in praying for our brothers and sisters in Christ in the epicenter of this devastation. For context, the 2010 Haiti earthquake that demolished the capital city of Port-au-Prince, was a 7.0 magnitude. This earthquake was more intense but happened to occur in a less densely populated area.

Thankfully, everything in Neply appears to be okay. Our incredible Haitian and American staff on-ground quickly implemented our Earthquake Protocol and within a few hours everyone was accounted for and safe. They are continuing to check on our community and neighboring villages to assess the situation and help as they can.

The earthquake comes just a month after the assassination of Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moïse, further crushing the country that has faced one unimaginable obstacle after another.

There is a Haitian Proverb that says:

Dye mon, gen mon.

(Beyond the mountains, more mountains)

Haiti has seen its share of difficult mountains in recent years. But Haiti is not hopeless. We believe through prayer we will see God move mountains and heal Haiti.

Matthew 17:20

Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Please Pray For:

  • The Haitian people. They are overwhelmed and suffering immensely: physically and spiritually.

  • For God’s Protection and for the people of Haiti to turn to God during this time.

  • For the Holy Spirit to sweep throughout the country and for peace, comfort, healing, and revival to rest in the hearts of the Haitian people.

Thank you for calling out to God on behalf of our Haitian family and for your support during this time! If you'd like to financially support our ministry on-ground in Haiti, click here.
