fighting for families
An estimated 30,000 children live in 750 orphanages in Haiti. 80 percent of these children are noT actually orphans.
We believe in keeping families together. A family-based care model provides a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive environment for children and families.
BECAUSE Children belong in families,
HOW WE ARE DIFFERENT
WE ARE NOT AN ORPHANAGE
myLIFEspeaks works closely with Haitian Child Services to create infrastructure so abandoned and neglected children don’t fall through the cracks. We provide family-based orphan care, similar to that of foster care in the US, for children who have truly been orphaned, neglected, and abandoned; many of whom have been discarded due to their special needs. We work to place as many children as possible with loving forever families, and keep them out of orphanages, off the streets, and out of danger.
We are developing a Christ-Centered Culture one LIFE at a time THROUGH:
Why family-based orphan care?
We address the root issue head-on by empowering families, namely parents, so children don’t end up being relinquished to orphanages who use them for profit.
Abraham was abandoned outside of a hospital in Les Cayes after Hurricane Matthew in the Fall of 2016.
in-home feeding assistance program
Without myLIFEspeaks’ support, these children and families otherwise may not have food eat. This program gives families a hand-up, not a hand-out, while helping stand in the nutritional gap.
The Table members help keep children in their families, not in orphanages.
Join us in providing food, education, and healthcare resources to our community by being a monthly donor.
SEE THE DIFFERENCE THE TABLE MEMBERS MAKE
Saika came into our care in 2016 after she was abandoned at a nearby American mission Neply. Many of the children brought into myLIFEspeaks care from Haitian Child Services were abandoned by their birth parents at hospitals or other nearby missions and left to fend for themselves.
Roman Innocent was a healthy, active 10-year-old boy until an infection from a cut on his leg while playing soccer left him fighting for his LIFE. Legs wrapped in bandages, Roman was lifted off the motorcycle and carried inside myLIFEspeaks’ commUNITY center.
LIFE Academy is one of the only inclusive schools in our region of Haiti where children, both typically developing and special needs, learn together under the same roof. Our sign language class has been particularly LIFE-transformative to watch as children find their voice and are able to interact with the world in a way they couldn’t prior.
The Table members are monthly donors committed to making an impact.
