Stronger Together: How Partnership Helps Protect Families in Haiti

Sometimes the greatest impact of a partnership isn’t seen in one moment.

It is seen years later.

More than five years ago, our friends at Sentinel Foundation came alongside myLIFEspeaks to invest in the training and development of our Haitian Security Team.

At the time, none of us could have known everything Haiti would face in the years ahead. We couldn’t have predicted the level of instability that would come, how difficult transportation would become, or how important a well-trained, trusted local security team would be to the daily life of our organization and our commUNITY.

Still, the investment made then continues to make a difference today.

Training That Lasts

The men who serve on the myLIFEspeaks Security Team took the training they received from Sentinel seriously.

They learned. They practiced. They grew.

Most importantly, they carried it forward.

Years later, those lessons continue to shape the way our team approaches their work. They understand that security is about much more than protecting buildings or property. It is about being aware, prepared, disciplined, and ready to serve the people around them.

Their presence helps create an environment where our staff can work, children can attend school, patients can receive medical care, families can participate in programs, and our commUNITY can feel safer.

This is what sustainability looks like: investing in Haitian leaders and equipping them with tools they can continue using to strengthen their own community.

Sentinel helped provide those tools, and our Haitian team continues putting them into practice.

A Partnership That Goes Beyond Training

Over the years, our partnership with Sentinel has continued to grow.

As conditions in Haiti have become increasingly difficult, getting critical resources into the country has required trusted relationships, experience, creativity, and determination.

Sentinel has continued to stand beside myLIFEspeaks through supply drops, resupply missions, and logistical support that have helped food, hygiene products, medical necessities, and other important resources reach the people we serve.

During one major relief effort, myLIFEspeaks supporters gave a significant amount toward desperately needed supplies for families and programs in Haiti. Getting those resources safely where they needed to go presented real logistical challenges, and Sentinel became an invaluable partner in helping make that possible.

For families facing poverty, food insecurity, disability, limited healthcare, and instability, the pressures can be overwhelming. Without support, children can become more vulnerable to abandonment, exploitation, trafficking, institutionalization, or dangerous influences.

That is why strengthening families matters so deeply.

Our goal is not simply to meet an immediate need. It is to help families become stronger, healthier, and better equipped to care for their children.
